First Google Home Speaker update ‘improves network traffic,’ rolling out now

The topic First Google Home Speaker update ‘improves network traffic,’ rolling out now is currently the subject of lively discussion — readers and analysts are keeping a close eye on developments.

This is taking place in a dynamic environment: companies’ decisions and competitors’ reactions can quickly change the picture.

Google is rolling out the first post-launch firmware update for the Home Speaker, with other devices also getting this improvement.

Starting today, Google is releasing production firmware version 3.78.540761 (from 3.78.538897) to the Home Speaker, Nest Audio, Nest Mini, Home Mini, and original Home. (As a reminder, the Google Home Max is running older software.)

Instead of the usual “Bug fixes and improvements,” the release notes section today says “Improves network traffic.” We haven’t noticed any issues with the Home Speaker (or any other model) in that regard, though my new device last week was responsible for two days of Google Home app “joined your [Wi-Fi] network” notifications in the middle of the night.

This update skipped the Preview Program track and is actively “rolling out” to devices. Updates for Home devices happen automatically in the background.

To check, open the device page in the Google Home app and tap the settings gear icon in the top-right corner. Go to “Device information” for “Technical information.”

This follows Google on July 29 releasing a “hot patch” for both versions of the Google Nest Hub and Nest Hub Max that “contains critical security and bug fixes.”
