As announced on the Windows Blogs, Microsoft is finally letting people restart and shut down without installing pending updates. Right now, the update is rolling out to Windows Insiders, so it’s not quite ready for release, but I can’t imagine it will cause too many issues and should arrive on everyone’s PCs soonish.<\/p>\n

However, as Microsoft puts it, this change is more than just some much-needed buttons:<\/p>\n

After a restart, Windows will attempt to restore previously opened applications faster, allowing users to return more easily to what they were working on.<\/p>\n

This change is about is about making the Power menu more predictable, so when you need a quick restart or want to power off before heading out, Windows does exactly what you expect.<\/p>\n

Speaking of Windows Update, this new build will let you indefinitely delay an update indefinitely in 35-day bursts. If you just want more control over your updates, Windows will let you pick the specific day it’ll install the patch. And Windows Update will no longer force you to download new updates during OOBE so you can land on the desktop faster. Sounds like a solid range of Windows Update changes to me.<\/p>\n
