A quick unboxing doesn\u2019t show anything of particular note, aside from the fact that the power cable is fixed to the speaker. That\u2019s quite the departure from Google\u2019s past releases, which all had removable cables, either with a barrel plug, microUSB, or USB-C. The Google Store notes that a 30W USB-C adapter is included and also says it has a \u201ccaptive cable.\u201d So Google hasn\u2019t really hidden this detail, but it certainly went a bit under the radar. The cable is just under 5ft long, which the poster notes is the biggest downside that stood out so far.<\/p>\n

The post turned into a Q&A of first impressions, where it\u2019s mentioned that there are \u201cno obvious\u201d points of entry. On the audio quality side, it\u2019s apparently not half bad. The poster here is actually an audio engineer, and says it\u2019s good enough to be the \u201cmain speaker\u201d in their living room, \u201cmaking the mark\u201d in that room while other rooms have \u201cnice analog\u201d systems. There\u2019s mention of tweaking the audio settings, implying there\u2019s an EQ, with the speaker having \u201cdecent low range clarity, and a good high to mid range.\u201d That\u2019s just compared to other smart speakers, though, so we\u2019ll have to wait and see further tests.<\/p>\n
