The new push is for triple-laser DLP, which boasts huge brightness numbers while being color accurate, and that’s what we see used in the XGIMI Titan Noir Max.

This stylish unit drops the smart TV streaming capabilities of its brethren, to put a laser focus on the image quality. It’s a gamble that pays off in my estimation, because this is a true TV replacement. One quick note, this boasts a high brightness of 7,000 ANSI lumens; only around 5,000 of those are usable. The high performance mode that does output 7,000 lumens comes at the cost of color accuracy and contrast, and that’s a trade-off that’s not worth it.

About this review: XGIMI supplied the Titan Noir Max and stand used in this review, and did not see its contents before publication.

The Xgimi Titan Noir Max is the best consumer projector we’ve ever tested. It’s got the chops to deliver reference-grade images, and enough brightness for daytime use. Oh, and a rarity in the space, it’s decoupled from the usual streaming smart TV interface which should give it a little more longevity.

The XGIMI Titan Noir Max ($5,999), the Noir Pro ($4,999) and Noir ($3,999) were launched as a Kickstarter campaign that has just finished as the most funded campaign of 2026 so far. The Pro and Noir models will be available on XGIMI’s website starting in July and August, respectively, and the Noir Max can still be ordered through the Kickstarter campaign page. And yes, it did come in that faux leather carrying case, which is a nice touch.

The XGIMI Titan Noir Max is around the same size as the Valerion I recently reviewed, but in a much classier box. Every angle of the projector is designed to hide every joint, making it look like it was carved from a solid block. You wouldn’t be ashamed to have this out on your coffee table if company came around.

The large lens dominates the front panel, which is where the dual-Iris system lives (one light path handles the color and contrast while a second ensures the correct luminance). This makes for great contrast (claimed 10,000:1 native) and up to 7,000 ANSI lumens of brightness. Realistically, you’ll be getting around 5,000 lumens when using Filmmaker Mode or Dolby Vision, and those are the most accurate modes for color and clarity.

You have an 0.98 to 2.0:1 optical zoom lens, which has true lens shift for adapting to your viewing space. HDR support covers the full gamut from HDR10+, Dolby Vision, IMAX Enhanced, and Filmmaker Mode.

The four legs can all be adjusted to get the correct angle for your screen, but it uses a non-standard mount, so you’ll need to pick up XGIMI’s stand or ceiling mount if you want to have it off the table. Connectivity is handled by three HDMI 2.1 ports (one eARC), USB 3.0, Gigabit LAN, optical audio, and Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2.

What you won’t find here is a smart TV interface. While it does run Android Open Source Project (AOSP) under the hood, that’s just for settings. You’ll need to supply your own source, and really, for a projector of this caliber, you should do that anyway.

The front has a triple-sensor TOF system that handles automatic framing adjustments to move around objects while setting up your projector. This is also used to dim or turn off the lasers when someone is detected walking in front of the projector while on, a handy safety feature that means you don’t have to ceiling mount to keep it outside eye-height.

The zoom and lens shift functions worked very well to get the image where I wanted it. And unlike other projectors, the outside edges were straight, with no need to adjust. because of the aspherical elements used in the light path.

Like phones, projector hardware is now built to outlast onboard software.

The lens system XGIMI has created for the Titan Noir Max is fantastic, keeping sharpness and focus across the entire projected area. At the same time, the dual-iris system means less unwanted light where it shouldn’t be. Projectors always have some level of light spill out of the main area, which leads to a gray edge, but this system reduces that almost to nothing. It’s only really noticeable in these photos because of how sensitive digital camera sensors are.

Want a projector that can rival OLED but at higher brightness levels? You’ve found it. The Titan Noir Max is simply breathtaking when watching movies or TV, whether that’s in SDR, or one of the many HDR options.

The combination of high brightness and dynamic black levels afforded by the dual iris system means HDR really pops, while keeping shadow detail. I wouldn’t leave it on dynamic iris settings, this felt a little conservative on how bright or dark it would go, but lowering the f-stop on the iris made all the difference.

It’s color accurate, covers the entire DCI-P3 gamut, and the perceived contrast levels are off the charts. At f7.0 it does get quite dark, but still has more than enough brightness for nighttime viewing, while at f2.0 it’s easily bright enough for daytime viewing.

Gaming on projectors has come a long way since the first time I used an old Epson purchased from old stock from a university’s IT department. The Titan Noir Max is the best projector I’ve tested for gaming, with either 4K/60 or 1080P/240 modes to choose from. If you’re wondering why no 4K/120 mode, that’s an inherent limitation of DLP chips, and you won’t find any projector that has this option.

I was happily playing Hades 2 at 4K/60 with 3ms of input lag, and it was a glorious experience. The projector also supports VRR and FreeSync Pro, and I didn’t notice any screen tearing at all while this was enabled.

The 1080/240 mode is even more impressive, dropping input lag to 1ms. I was playing Forza Horizon 6 via a mini PC, so excuse the lower frame rate here as it was for demonstrative purposes of the 240Hz mode only.

The Titan Noir Max has two 12W Harman Kardon speakers inside, which support DTS:X and Harman Kardon’s own EQ curve. They’re usable, but limited, and you really should budget for a Dolby Atmos surround-sound system to accompany the visual experience this projector is capable of.

While the internals of this projector can’t play back Dolby Atmos, it will pass through uncompressed Dolby Atmos if your source and home theater receiver supports the format.

The midrange is nice and clean, so you won’t have any trouble picking up voice lines (while many lifestyle projectors suffer from muddy sound). As you might expect from 12W speakers, bass isn’t very present, and it’s lacking in overall room-filling power. Again, that’s fine. Pro projectors don’t have internal speakers, and lifestyle ones are rarely good enough for a pleasurable listening experience.

I should also point out that the noise coming from the unit is nearly imperceptible, in the region of 30dB when I tested with my phone and the NIOSH noise app. That’s the noise of my room without the projector running, and it’s this quiet even with the RBE reduction setting on. The only mode that made it noisier was the performance one claiming 7,000 lumens, but you don’t want to use that one as it introduces a green color cast.

XGIMI’s new flagship projector will set you back $6,000 if you order one now, which puts it in rarefied air among lifestyle projectors. The thing is, the Titan Noir Max is designed to appeal to the home theater enthusiasts that usually go for professional units from Epson and others.

XGIMI has put together a very compelling package here, with reference-quality images, wide HDR format support, and a high brightness that doesn’t sacrifice color accuracy or contrast (in all but one mode). So you might find it funny that my favorite feature is the complete lack of any smart TV software, but there it is. No software means nothing to break or maintain on XGIMI’s part, no Netflix certification program to go through, no advertising being shown to your customers, leaving them to choose their preferred source. That’s a smart move, and in a sea of DLP triple-laser projectors, could easily be the decider.

Why it matters

News like this often changes audience expectations and competitors’ plans.

When one player makes a move, others usually react — it is worth reading the event in context.

What to look out for next

The full picture will become clear in time, but the headline already shows the dynamics of the industry.

Further statements and user reactions will add to the story.

The topic This $6000 laser projector is bright enough to compete with sunlight, and it changes… … This $6000 laser projector is bright enough to compete with sunlight, and it changes…Read more

[1
260,281,2595,259,258
post-17717","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-innovate","tag-noir","tag-projector","tag-projectors","tag-titan","tag-xgimi
<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.8 -
