While I\u2019m eagerly awaiting iOS 27\u2019s upgrades for CarPlay, I recently had my first hands-on experience with a new CarPlay setting that arrived in iOS 26, and it\u2019s one that should have existed all along.<\/p>\n

iOS 26 gave CarPlay a bunch of new features, and the list grew even more with the recent iOS 26.4 additions.<\/p>\n

Smart Display Zoom is a new iOS 26 setting available in CarPlay\u2019s Settings app under \u2018Display.\u2019<\/p>\n

My colleague Chance wrote about it last year, and for some reason I never bothered to try it out myself\u2014or so I thought.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s what Smart Display Zoom does when enabled, per the Settings app:<\/p>\n

CarPlay will be automatically optimized for your vehicle\u2019s display.<\/p>\n

Sounds simple, right? It also sounds like a setting that should have been there all along.<\/p>\n

There are so many different vehicle infotainment screens in the world, all varying in shape and size. That makes Smart Display Zoom a no-brainer addition, since it ensures that CarPlay adapts to your specific display.<\/p>\n

Today I finally opened the Display menu in my CarPlay Settings app and was surprised to find that Smart Display Zoom was already enabled.<\/p>\n

I bought my current vehicle in January, and assumed it was using the default view setting. Yet unbeknownst to me, I had actually never seen CarPlay in this vehicle without Smart Display Zoom enabled.<\/p>\n

So when I turned the toggle off, it became obvious how much better the setting makes CarPlay.<\/p>\n

As you can see in the Apple Podcasts comparisons above and below, some apps are able to show more content with Smart Display Zoom enabled.<\/p>\n

Not every app or interface is drastically different. But for those that are, Smart Display Zoom is the clear winner in my view.<\/p>\n

Everyone has their own unique preferences, so it\u2019s possible some who have grown used to the default CarPlay look won\u2019t appreciate Smart Display Zoom. If you haven\u2019t given it a try though, I highly recommend checking it out.<\/p>\n
