Framework says its new modular Laptop 13 Pro is a "ground up redesign"

The topic Framework says its new modular Laptop 13 Pro is a “ground up redesign” is currently the subject of lively discussion — readers and analysts are keeping a close eye on developments.

This is taking place in a dynamic environment: companies’ decisions and competitors’ reactions can quickly change the picture.

Computing company Framework is back with the Laptop 13 Pro, an upgraded version of its smaller modular Laptop 13, alongside an update to its Framework Laptop 16, and a few other accessory announcements.

Framework says that its new Framework Laptop 13 Pro is a “complete group up redesign” of the Framework Laptop 13, describing it as the “ultimate portable developer and power user machine.” The laptop can be configured with Intel Core Series 3 CPUs, including the Core Ultra 5, Core Ultra X7, and Core Ultra X9, alongside three LPCAMM2 configurations: 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB (Framework says that configurations with more RAM are on the way).

The Laptop 13 Pro’s battery comes in at 74Wh, allowing it to stream Netflix at 4K for over 20 hours, 12 hours longer than the standard Laptop 13, according to the data Framework’s press release. The Framework Pro 13’s battery can also be easily replaced, similar to all the PC maker’s laptops. Additionally, the modular laptop comes with a 100W GaN Power Adapter, which is notably larger than the 60W adapter that its predecessor included.

The Framework Laptop 13 Pro’s 13.5-inch display features a 2,880 x 1920-pixel resolution, supports touch input, and features a 30-120Hz refresh rate. The company says the Laptop 13 Pro is its first laptop to feature PCIe 5.0, enabling NVMe storage up to 8TB. Other features include Wi-Fi 7 and four Thunderbolt 4 ports.

Like all of Framework’s products, the Laptop 13 Pro is highly repairable and upgradable, and almost all of its components are compatible with the company’s other laptops. The Framework Laptop 13 is available to pre-order now, starting at $1,199 for the DIY edition and $1,499 for a pre-built version, with shipments starting in June.

Along with the Laptop 13 Pro, Framework has also updated its Laptop 16 with a new one-piece haptic touchpad and one-piece keyboard options. Additionally, there are Ryzen 5 processor configurations for the laptop.

Other announcements include a new OCuLink Dev Kit that aims to support high-bandwidth accessories such as eGPUs, and the Framework Wireless Touchpad Keyboard, a new compact keyboard with an integrated touchpad designed for living room use.
