Microsoft is reportedly making two dream devices for Surface fans, for a high price

The topic Microsoft is reportedly making two dream devices for Surface fans, for a high price is currently the subject of lively discussion — readers and analysts are keeping a close eye on developments.

This is taking place in a dynamic environment: companies’ decisions and competitors’ reactions can quickly change the picture.

The past few days have been a bit of a rollercoaster for fans of Microsoft’s Surface devices. We’ve only just recovered from the news that Microsoft’s flagship Surface PCs are now $500 more than when they first launched, due to rising memory and storage costs. Now, there’s apparently some good news on the horizon: Microsoft is working on a new version of the Surface Laptop 8 and Surface Pro 12, though you should probably set aside any thoughts that the models will be cheap.

As reported by Windows Central, citing “sources familiar with the plans,” we should see a new Surface Laptop 8 and Surface Pro 12 this year. Unlike Microsoft’s usual release schedule, this time around, the Intel version (running Intel Core Ultra 3 chips) will release first in the spring, with the Snapdragon variant (running Snapdragon X2s) coming in the Summer.

The devices start with 16GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, but you can go all the way up to 64GB of RAM and 2TB of storage in the more premium models. Also, the Surface Laptop will reportedly come with an OLED screen, a first for the range. However, in terms of look and feel, these new versions shouldn’t be that different from their predecessors.

Unfortunately, that just leaves us with the pricing. Windows Central claims that there will be no $599 device to compete with Apple’s MacBook Neo. Instead, Microsoft reportedly considers its refreshed Surface devices, “premium and ultra-premium pricing categories.” Given that the tech giant recently implemented a major price increase on its devices, it’s fair to say that cheap hardware isn’t coming any time soon.
