Want a Steam Controller? Not until 2027, says Valve

The topic Want a Steam Controller? Not until 2027, says Valve is currently the subject of lively discussion — readers and analysts are keeping a close eye on developments.

This is taking place in a dynamic environment: companies’ decisions and competitors’ reactions can quickly change the picture.

When the new-generation Steam Controller was released, the asking price of $100 was perhaps a little on the steep side. Despite that, people have been snapping them up en masse, to the point where Valve is having issues keeping in stock. In response to the shortages, Valve has added a little tracker to let potential buyers know when they can expect their controllers, and it looks like getting your own this side of 2026 is a bit of a pipe dream.

As spotted by The Verge, Valve has published a blog post covering the Steam Controller situation. The demand has been quite intense, so Valve has had to divvy up reservations into one of three categories:

To keep it simple, we’re showing one of three estimated order windows:

The timeframe you’ll get depends entirely on the country you’re ordering from, but there’s a very good chance that if you head over to the Steam Controller page and check the estimated order availability, it’ll just tell you to hold tight until 2027. Rats.

Regardless, if you want one and don’t mind the wait, you can reserve a spot in the queue, and Valve will email you a link to buy one when you can. You’ll only have three days to buy it, so don’t dawdle when you get that email. If you’ve already reserved one, the Steam Controller page should tell you your individual estimate, which should hopefully be before 2027 if you got a reservation earlier.
